Welcome to my DF Journey for 2017! I'm starting my 28th year as an educator, but in many ways, I feel like every day provides opportunities to learn something new. I taught secondary math for 25 years, and during my last years in the classroom, I was also an Instructional Specialist, and I wore many hats for this role. Since 2008, I helped plan the staff development for our building, and I always loved exploring technology, so my "new" job as a Digital Learning Consultant is really a dream job because it combines two of my favorite things: professional learning and integrating technology! I am excited to share this iteration of our DF Academy, and I hope we're on the same wavelength with the session goals, essential questions, and connections to the ISTE Student Standards. I realize day 1 (especially) may be a stretch outside your comfort zone, but I hope we're establishing a safe community of learners so that you'll feel comfortable taking a few learning risks.
My goals for my our sessions: allow time for collaboration (virtually and face-to-face) and make certain there are direct applications to your role in education. I hope that there will be tools and ideas that you can use on Monday, but I know some of the concepts will be for someday. A recent a-ha about my learning preferences: I definitely prefer face-to-face interactions, so give me an edcamp or #CoffeeEDU over a Twitter chat! I'm trying out an informal online course this month (Tony Vincent's Classy Graphics) so I'll let you know how that goes. I think I prefer shorter bursts of learning (weekend institutes rather than 3-month sessions) so we'll see how this informal class goes. I also loved participating in #Sketch50 last spring, which was to try one sketch a day for 50 days. I hope you'll enjoy our Digital Learning Adventure!
